Key Takeaways:

  • CFOs are no longer questioning digital assets as speculative but by practical use, according to Ripple.
  • XRP and RLUSD are set to be used in treasury, payroll and cross border payment flows.
  • 24/7 onchain liquidity markets may enable companies to become more flexible in controlling their liquidity.

Ripple is highlighting a change in how corporate finance teams view crypto, with digital assets increasingly being discussed as operational tools rather than assets held purely for speculation. In a recent post on X, the company pointed to XRP and RLUSD as examples of assets that could support treasury operations, payroll and cross-border flows.

Crypto Moves Into Corporate Treasury

The CFO conversation has shifted and the question is not just what digital assets are worth, but what they can do for a business, per Ripple.

According to the company, CFOs have shifted their perception of digital assets from a “purely speculative” asset to a useful asset. The change brings treasury into the conversation, as companies place, control and optimize cash and liquidity, payments and short-turn funding.

XRP and RLUSD are two different types of digital assets in Ripple’s ecosystem. XRP is the native cryptocurrency of the XRP Ledger and can be used as a bridge asset for transactions. The U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, on the other hand, is Ripple’s Ripple Dollar stablecoin (RLUSD).

For corporate finance teams, that distinction is important. Different treasury needs can be satisfied by a volatile crypto asset and a stable coin that uses dollars as the underlying asset.

24/7 Markets Change the Treasury Clock

Ripple is also involved in one key difference amid onchain markets and financial infrastructure, with 24/7 operations.

Business hours/weekends and settlement windows may limit traditional banking processes. These can occur outside those schedules, too, providing yet another avenue for the movement of liquidity when traditional modes aren’t available to treasury teams.

This is the concept behind Ripple’s own treasury system. It has a unified platform where digital assets and fiat liquidity exist on the same ledger, and teams can monitor and manage both types on a single platform.

But companies don’t necessarily have to swap-in traditional cash handling for blockchain cash management. Rather, digital assets can serve as a new instrument of liquidity in addition to existing treasury systems.

XRP and RLUSD Target Different Payment Needs

One thing that Ripple is suitable to point out is cross-border transactions. The company claims that the use of blockchain technology can cut delays stemming from correspondent banking and get value across borders within seconds.

Currently, Ripple Payments is supporting treasury and liquidity management, payroll, payments to suppliers and other cross-border use cases. It can operate on both XRP and stablecoins (RLUSD) depending on the transaction or need for liquidity.

RLUSD is especially suited to transactions where the maintaining of a dollar-denominated value is important. The stablecoin is backed by cash, U.S. Treasuries and cash equivalents, claims Ripple, adding that redemption is available at par.

If it’s payroll, it implies relocating funds across borders without relying on traditional banking windows, and the recipient can now get stablecoins portions or transform their into regional currency through sustained compensation structure.

Ripple has also been building treasury products around this use case. In April, the company launched Digital Asset Accounts and Unified Treasury, allowing CFOs and treasury teams to view, hold, receive and manage fiat and digital liquidity within one platform.

The latest comments therefore fit into a broader push by Ripple to bring XRP, stablecoins and blockchain settlement deeper into everyday corporate finance, moving crypto use beyond trading and investment into payments, liquidity and treasury management.
